Insurance
In many cases Insurance is one of those cost’s
where a person does not really see any return as such,
hence the reason why a number of people don’t take out
adequate or in fact any Insurance at all. Obviously, if
you were talking about Car Insurance then you have to by
law.
Unfortunately, many people just don’t bother
taking out other types of Insurance. You know what
I mean, for example home contents insurance, home
buildings insurance, life insurance, pet insurance or
even travel insurance.
This is mainly due to it being a cost which can
not be seen as a positive gain, but let’s put this into
perspective. There was a case a short while ago on the
news, where a person had just finished paying for his
house with his mortgage company.
He stopped the mortgage payments, obviously
because he owed nothing, but linked to these payments was
his home buildings insurance and his home contents
insurance.
There was a major fire at the back of his
property in a small foundry, which due to strong winds
quickly spread to the row of terraced houses, which in
turn totally destroyed four properties and caused
considerable damage to another three.
Unfortunately one of these properties belonged
to this person who had cancelled his Insurance. He
did mean to take out adequate cover, but just didn’t get
around to doing it. Consequently, he lost
everything.
From his perspective, he now knows the value of
taking out Insurance, because he lost so much. But to
many of us, these situations, happily, just don’t happen,
especially when you are adequately insured.
For some reason, it’s when you don’t have
Insurance, that disaster strikes. Don’t ask me why – its
just one of those weird things that always seems to
happen.
The same can be said for most types of Insurance
and it’s not just ensuring that you have cover, but also
ensuring you have the right cover. For example Pet
Insurance can seem to many as an unnecessary additional
cost.
I should know, I found out the hard way.
My Golden retriever decided; bless him, to eat a rubber
garden glove. He was always a greedy little so and
so, but alas, that garden glove cost me dear.
The glove actually blocked his intestines and
the dog was in severe discomfort in a very short amount
of time. After a visit to the vets and several
costly x-rays, it was determined that major surgery was
needed to remove the glove or rather what was left of
it!
This was all done quite rapidly and very
professionally I must say and within a few weeks my
lovely Golden Retriever was back to running around as
normal.
Now don’t get me wrong, I love my dog to bits
and no amount of money would have prevented me from
keeping him fit and healthy – but boy, that vets bill ran
literally into thousands. Had I taken out Pet
Insurance I would have been laughing all the way to the
bank, but you just don’t expect the
unexpected.
So the moral of the tale is, always, always make
sure you have adequate Insurance cover from Pet
Insurance, Home buildings insurance, life insurance, home
contents insurance and of course travel
insurance.
You can get some really affordable cover if you
just do a little research and find the best value out
their, but let me promise you, the best value you can
ever get, is actually having the cover when a disaster
strikes.
